The Singapore-flagged bulk carrier MV Devon Bay capsized and sank in the South China Sea on 23 January 2026 while on passage from Gutalac, Philippines, to Yangjiang, China.
The vessel was reported to have developed a severe list late on 22 January, after which contact was lost. A distress alert was transmitted in the early hours of 23 January.
Search and rescue operations were coordinated by the Philippine Coast Guard and the China Coast Guard.

The incident occurred in waters northwest of Scarborough Shoal, where SAR units from both countries were operating at the time of the casualty.
