1Is a separate type-specific approved ECDIS training certificate mandatory under this guidance?
No. The source distinguishes generic approved training from familiarisation with the installed equipment. Objective familiarisation evidence and competence are required; it does not impose a separate type-specific approved-training certificate.
2When must familiarisation be completed?
Before taking an independent navigation watch, each time the deck officer joins a vessel. The SMS should define and document its evaluation.
