Applicability: Bulk grain, not bagged grain. RISQ 8B normally requires the grain authorisation and loading manual and grain on board; a brief period without grain may be assessed if procedures can be adequately checked and the circumstances are recorded. See 8B.5 for the separate no-authorisation provision. This entry concerns fumigated cargo or proposed fumigation, as applicable.

Check the vessel’s actual procedures, equipment and records against these points from RISQ 3.2.

Keep communications, company/fumigator details, fumigation plan, certificate, signed checklist and written handover.Record operation details in deck log and workbook: personnel, start/finish, holds, fumigant identity, application level/method/location and gas readings.Retain hold plans showing placement and quantity of fumigant.Record daily gas readings with times/locations, high-reading actions and their results.Cover accommodation, machinery, navigation spaces and frequently visited working areas/stores adjacent to treated holds.Retain the source’s voyage checks at least every eight hours or more frequently if advised by the fumigator, together with any more protective monitoring arrangements.Record post-treatment hold ventilation.
