Ammonia escape, rescue and safety equipment
Applicability: Section 7D applies where equipment, machinery or a system on board uses ammonia fuel. Apply the vessel-specific conditions in this entry.
What is being checked
Suitable escape and rescue equipment is complete and maintained.
Ready on board
0 / 9 checkedCheck the vessel’s actual procedures, equipment and records against these points from RISQ 3.2.
Practice questions
Preparation prompts derived from this entry, not an official inspector interview script.
1Can the 15-minute escape apparatus be used for rescue or firefighting?
No. The source distinguishes escape protection, which must be marked against firefighting/cargo handling, from the additional work/safety sets.
2Can the additional breathing apparatus use stored oxygen?
No. These safety sets require positive-pressure air breathing apparatus, not stored oxygen. Medical oxygen resuscitation is a separate equipment provision.
Where a finding may arise
Missing evidence or defects inconsistent with the checks above may prevent a satisfactory answer. These are preparation concerns derived from the question, not explicit additional finding criteria or reported past observations.
Past observations for practice
Anonymised reports, manually reviewed before publication. These are reported experiences, not additional inspection requirements.
No reviewed observations have been added for this entry.
Share an observation for private review
Remove vessel, company and inspector names, report numbers, exact dates and confidential information. Do not paste a complete inspection report.
Source clarification
Equipment availability does not authorise entry into an ammonia atmosphere. Use the approved entry/rescue plan and trained personnel; this guide provides no medical treatment or rescue execution instructions.
