Check the vessel’s actual procedures, equipment and records against these points from RISQ 3.2.

Keep SMS guidance defining hot work, including flame, welding, heating and spark-producing tools. Absence of guidance means prohibition, not permission.Give first consideration to the designated safe hot-work space, such as the workshop.For work outside it, have the Master/designated safety officer decide whether it is justified and safe; use a permit identifying the exact location, timing, hazards and nearby cargo/flammables.Prepare a written plan agreed by those responsible and reviewed before work by a management-company representative, with feedback and formal agreement retained.Assign a responsible officer uninvolved in the hot work, prepare/isolate the area, protect adjacent materials and establish firefighting arrangements and adjacent-area fire watches.Continue isolation and fire precautions until fire risk has ended; comply with applicable national rules and ensure all involved understand the permit.
