What is being checked

Current class status, valid certificates and surveys, with no overdue Conditions of Class.

Use the vessel’s actual documents, records and arrangements. Checklist points are drawn from RISQ 3.2.

Have the class survey status available on board, dated no more than seven days before inspection; provide the reviewed PDF for attachment to the inspection report.Check statutory certificate validity, survey due dates and Conditions of Class. Identify any short-term certificate issued because of structural, machinery or equipment defects or damage.Have details of each Condition of Class, Significant Recommendation and Memorandum available for the inspector’s comments.For any Flag dispensation, show its expiry, the underlying deficiency and Flag-mandated corrective actions.For electronic certificates, show convention-compliant content, protection against unauthorised changes, a unique tracking number and a printable, visible issuer symbol.Keep verification instructions on board and be ready for the Master to demonstrate electronic certificate validity.

1How recent must the class survey status be?

It must be available on board and dated no more than seven days before the inspection.

Use the onboard verification instructions to show validity and the four features listed in the checklist; merely displaying a file does not establish all these features.

Where a finding may arise

RISQ expressly calls for a finding for a defect- or damage-related short-term certificate, an overdue Condition of Class, an unavailable up-to-date class survey status, or failure to demonstrate the required electronic-certificate features. Certificate validity and survey currency are also assessed by the question.
