Switching off AIS does not make a tanker invisible. It removes the easiest public identification layer, while leaving the ship exposed to radar, satellites and other surveillance. In Hormuz, the real question is not whether a vessel went dark, but why and whether that decision can later be proved as security rather than concealment.
