Petrobras has commenced oil and gas production from FPSO P-78 (Búzios 6) on 31 December 2025, strengthening Brazil’s offshore output as it enters 2026. The unit is deployed in the Búzios field, the country’s largest producing oil field.

FPSO P-78 has a capacity of around 180,000 barrels of oil per day and can process approximately 7.2 million cubic metres of gas per day, supporting domestic gas supply. With its startup, total installed production capacity in Búzios exceeds 1.1 million barrels per day.

The FPSO is part of Petrobras’ new standardized design using the PBRef concept, incorporating operational lessons from more than a decade of pre-salt production. It connects to 13 subsea wells through intelligent completions and high-capacity pipelines, and includes energy-efficiency features such as waste heat recovery and variable-speed drives.

P-78 was commissioned during transit from Singapore, accelerating first oil. The project also met local content commitments under Petrobras’ FORTALECE program.

Bottom line: P-78 boosts Brazil’s energy security and underpins Petrobras’ goal of ~2.5 million bpd average production in 2026.
